Club Founder

(1933 ¨C 2003)

Our Club Founder
The late Mr Lim Seng Kok founded the YMCA Folk Dance Group in 1957. In 1989, he was approached by several folk dance enthusiasts to lead and form the Intercommunity Folk Dance Association (IFDA).

With the help of the People¡¯s Association, IFDA was able to make use of the Havelock Community Centre.  In 1989, the Havelock Community Centre was demolished and in place a new highway was built.  IFDA then took temporary shelter at a school hall in Queenstown.  By then, the membership had reached about 250.

During the interim period, IFDA received many invitations to house its existing dance activities.  On 30 March 1991, IFDA started its first session at the Queenstown Community Centre in Margaret Drive.  Due to the shift of location, membership renewal was 70.  The Club carried out its activities for about 12 years before shifting to its new site in 2003.

On 26 April 2003, IFDA started its first dance session at the new Queenstown Community Centre in Commonwealth Avenue.

Accomplishment
Mr Lim, who completed his physical education training in Hong Kong, majored in International Folk Dance.  A folk dance enthusiast himself, he organized several major folk dance events at the then National Theatre and the NTUC Conference Hall.  He conducted the first Instructors Course in YMCA, Singapore, and the second one in the Queenstown Community Centre at Margaret Drive.  He also organized regularly folk dance nights, workshops, interschool folk dance activities, dance camps and dance marathons.

Besides a folk dance enthusiast, he was a certified scuba diver, biker, swimming coach, badminton player, and ¡¡¡¡.. a ladies¡¯ man!
